Rwandair To Begin Direct Flights To Addis Ababa
Promoting quick, safe and comfortable transport to and from Rwanda is one goal that the government of Rwanda together with the ministry of infrastructures and transport has considered as a priority. In the past years, Rwanda launched various direct flights to connecting Rwandaair to different African, European and West African countries. As we enter in the New Year, Rwanda air has announced its plans of launching direct flights to Addis Ababa in April 2019. The yet to be launched flights will operate five days a week flying direct from Kigali to Addis Ababa with a CRJ-900NG aircraft. Addisa Ababa is the capital city of Ethiopia whose location is so strategic for the region and the whole continent. Also, Addisa Ababa is a home to the headquarters of the African Union, the United Nations Economic Commission and Africa and other regional offices for a number of international organizations which make it prominent and strategic to promote Rwanda’s development for tourism and trade direct and indirectly.

With direct flights to Addisa Ababa, Rwandaiar will be able to connect with other parts of Ethiopia together with other African cities in its network. Also, the addition of Addisa Ababa is a key to Rwandaairs’s growth in Africa serving as a bridge for strengthening the bilateral relationships and improving trade and tourism between the two countries. Rwanda air found it imperative to fly to Addisa Ababa’s Bole international airport to serve as its hub in Africa. With these direct flights, Rwanda air expect better, quick, safe and comfortable connections to east, west and southern Africa. The airline’s decision to operate flights between Kigali and Addis Ababa comes following already operational flights by Ethiopian airlines, which is arguably the top established airline in the region.

The addition of Addis Ababa to Rwanda airline will makes Rwandaair fly direct to 27 destinations in Africa, Europe, Middle East and Asia. At present Rwanda air flies direct to 26 destinations across east, central, west and southern Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Asia. Last year, Rwandaair started flights from Kigali to Mumbai, Harare, London (Gatwick) and Brussels as well as Dakar from its second hub in Cotonou. In addition, Rwanda air introduced direct flights to Abidjan, Libreville and Brazzavile from Cotonou hub. Earlier this year, the airline started flights to Abuja in Nigeria and Cape Town.

Besides Addisa Ababa, Rwanda air plans to launch direct flights to Abidjan, Libreville and Brazzaville from its Cotonou hub. Still in 2019, Rwandaair will add Guangzhou, Tel Aviv, Bamako and Conakry will be added to the airlines expanding network with plans to enter the American market edging closer.
